A former television news producer (WJHL, WLOS, Time Warner Cable News, Spectrum News), she has written compelling cover stories for USA Today’s Fall 2020 Back to School Issue, Modern Woman Issue, and SouthPark Magazine’s IT List Issue. Her bylines span major publications, including Charlotte Magazine, ET Online, ESSENCE, EBONY, INSIDER, InHerSight, the National Museum of African American Music, Shondaland, Soul Train, Parade Magazine, Vanity Fair, Woman’s Day, WEtv.com, and Zola.com. She has also covered BravoCon 2023 as a writer.

As the creator and host of Check the Rhymes TV, Shameika delivers insightful interviews with influential figures on thought-provoking topics. Often described as “where Gen X meets pop culture,” the show takes an intimate look into the lives of media personalities and celebrities. In 2023, Check the Rhymes TV was named Best Talk Radio Show in Elevate Lifestyle Charlotte’s Best of the City Awards.
She is also the co-host of The Ladies Edition Podcast, where she empowers women through conversations on reproductive health. Expanding her impact in 2024, she launched Soulibration, a weekly lifestyle show on BlackDoctor.org, leading engaging discussions on health, wellness, and culture. Her viral interview with former MTV VJ Ananda Lewis, which gained significant traction just a day after Lewis’ CNN appearance, highlights Soulibration’s powerful influence. The show features in-depth conversations with medical and holistic experts, alongside celebrity guests, providing audiences with actionable insights for healthier living—food for the soul.
In addition to her media work, Shameika serves on the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame Advisory Board, where she has been the voice and writer of inductee videos since 2018, and hosts the red-carpet interviews for the annual induction ceremony. She is also a Media & Communication Executive Advisory Board member at East Tennessee State University, where she was the 2022 Keynote Speaker for ETSU’s Multicultural Graduation Ceremony. Shameika is also a proud member of the North Carolina Film Critics Association.
Her career has even taken her in front of the camera in reality TV—appearing as a cast member on CMT’s I Want to Look Like a High School Cheerleader Again in 2007.
